Trinity Catholic College in 2016-17 received catch up premium funding of £18,047, which we used to support a group of pupils who on entry had scaled scores of less than 100 in English and or Maths. This equated to 74 pupils in English and 58 pupils in Maths.
Trinity Catholic College spent this money on employing specific members of staff to work with this cohort of students in Maths and English for additional classroom support and interventions. These specific members of staff also supported our teaching model, moving away from a learning support assistant model (evidenced to have little impact – EEF 2017) to our new model where Teaching assistants are attached to specific departments. This enabled the students to have greater access to specialist teachers who are best equipped to ensure rapid progress of this specific cohort and promote high quality teaching and learning. The teachers that are working extensively with these classes are regularly seen delivering ‘good to outstanding’ teaching and learning opportunities within their classrooms.
