HeadStart is a preventative and early intervention approach to equip young people aged 10-16 years to cope better with difficult circumstances, preventing them from experiencing common mental health problems before they become serious issues. It’s about giving young people the knowledge, skills and support to cope with adversity and do well at school and in life.
To get this right, young people need to be involved in and influence HeadStart. HeadStarters is the youth engagement strand of HeadStart.
Middlesbrough HeadStart coordinates partnership working in schools so that young people can benefit from joined-up support. Middlesbrough Council lead HeadStart and we work in partnership with Youth Focus North East to lead and facilitate HeadStart Youth Engagement (HeadStarters).
